Three Women and a Child by a Doorway

In this drawing, remarkable is the way in which Rembrandt suggests forms without actually describing them. This is illustrated by the small group of the seated woman and child in the foreground. The lines do not depict anything, nor do they record the forms, but taken together they create a perfect illusion of form, volume and space.
