Collegio Elvetico, Milan

The palace was erected at the beginning of the seventeenth century by the wish of Cardinal Federico Borromeo as the seat of the Elvetico College, for the formation of the Swiss clergy. The construction began in 1608 by Fabio Mangone who built the large courtyard. The façade was designed by Ricchino. It is a work of great vigour which has, moreover, the distinction of being an early, perhaps the earliest, concave palazzo façade of the Baroque.
