Savonarola is portrayed in this medallion with great immediacy and expressive skill. As well as being skilled in modelling and relief, Francesco and Marco, the sons of Andrea della Robbia, had also followed a religious vocation and were Dominican monks at the same time as Savonarola from 1495-96.
