In this work the pictorial aspect seems to take precedence over the sculptural one. The figures stand out in relief from the background of the picture, which contains, along with the cross, a pair of angels, and the symbols of the Passion, and a boundless stretch of landscape with Jerusalem in the distance, surrounded by sunlit countryside against a dark and stormy sky.
