SANSOVINO, Jacopo
(b. 1486, Firenze, d. 1570, Venezia)

Jupiter

c. 1550
Bronze, height 51 cm
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna

There are not many autograph bronze statuette by Sansovino. The finest of them, the Jupiter in Vienna has the same flexibility of pose as the Mercury on the Loggetta, and is modelled with a classical precision. None the less, Sansovino, through the statues on the Loggetta, dominated the Venetian statuette.
