SANVITO, Bartolomeo
(b. ca. 1435, Padova, d. ca. 1518, Padova)

Virgil: Aeneid

1490s
Manuscript (Kings Ms. 24)
British Library, London

This manuscript of Virgil's Aeneid was written in Rome by Bartolomeo Sanvito, probably for Lodovico Agneli, bishop of Cosenza 1497-99. The miniatures were very probably painted by Sanvito himself.

The miniatures on folio 23v, shown here, depicts the Trojan horse and Aeneas carrying his father Anchises into exile.
