Santa Maria della Maddalena, Rome

In his design for the façade of Santa Maria della Maddalena, Sardi makes direct reference to the work of Borromini, whose plans for Sant'Ivo and the San Filippo Neri Oratory had recently been published as engravings. This link is indicated by the layout of the central niches, which clearly dominate the rather conventional structure. Sardi made extensive use of exuberant rocaille decoration.
