As an architect, Diego de Siloé executed the Escalera Dorada in the north transept of Burgos Cathedral. Its design is based on Bramante's symmetrical stairs in the Cortile del Belvedere in the Vatican, but the rich sculptural ornament is unique and illustrates Siloé's imaginative and inventive use of grotesque decoration.
