The style and distinctive colour scheme, derived from the Venetian colourists, recall the work of Juan Carreño de Miranda, Francisco Rizi, Claudio Coello and other leading members of the school of Madrid, to which De Solis belonged.

The painting is signed and dated along the lower edge: Solis. f t. 1682.
