STEFANO DA ZEVIO
(b. ca. 1375, Verona, d. 1451, Verona)

Tomb of Giovanni Salerni

c. 1400
Fresco
Cappella Salerni, Sant'Anastasia, Verona

Vasari called this painter Stefano da Verona; in documents, he appears as Stefano di Giovanni. The name da Zevio, adopted by local historians, arose from a confusion with Altichiero da Zevio. Vasari described several signed frescoes by Stefano in the churches and on palace façades in Verona (all destroyed), particularly praising his fresco technique and saying that Donatello admired Stefano's work when he visited the city.

The fresco above the sarcophagus of Giovanni Salerni is attributed to Stefano da Zevio.
