Marble and bronze
Boboli Gardens, Florence
The 17th-century Artichoke Fountain is situated in the courtyard of Palazzo Pitti on the terrace facing the Boboli Gardens. The fountain serves as a link between the architecture of the Pitti Palace and the amphitheatre with the extensive garden behind it. From the octagonal basin adorned with numerous statues rise two marble bowls with a bronze artichoke as the crowning finial on top, which gave the fountain its popular name.
