TENIERS, Flemish family of painters

Flemish family of painters and draughtsmen. David Teniers I (the Elder) was the pupil of his brother Juliaan Teniers I (1572-1615). Although several monumental paintings by him survive, both he and his son David Teniers II (the Younger) are best known for their small-scale cabinet pictures. David the Younger's son David III (1638–1685) was one of the many artists who imitated his father's work. Another son of David Teniers I, Abraham Teniers was also a painter specialized in genre scenes. Several other members of the family were painters.
