The Family of El Greco

c. 1605
Oil on canvas, 97 x 51,5 cm
Museo de la Real Academia de San Fernando, Madrid

This painting is occasionally attributed to El Greco, but now generally ascribed to Jorge Manuel. The painting evinces a number of irregularities of execution that suggest the involvement of different hands. The fact that the painting does not appear in the inventories of Jorge Manuel's property would seem to speak against its association with the El Greco family.
