Eurybates and Talthybios Lead Briseis to Agamemmon (detail)

1757
Fresco, 300 x 280 cm
Villa Valmarana ai Nani, Vicenza

This scene is on the wall of the room of Homer.

Agamemnon had Achilles's favourite slave, Briseis, handed over to him, in return for having been forced to surrender Chryseis, the daughter of a priest of Apollo. The representation shows an imperious-looking Agamemnon, in a kind of loggia in the foreground, awaiting the slave girl, who is being brought to him by two soldiers. The tents of the Greek army appear in the background. The panoramic landscape completes the scenery.
