Cavalcade of the Pulcinellas

1759-97
Fresco
Museo del Settecento Veneziano, Ca' Rezzonico, Venice

The picture shows one of the two oblong monochrome scenes above the doors in the Pulcinella Room. It is traditionally entitled Cavalcade of the Pulcinellas and has been interpreted as a parody of the Napoleonic epic. An army of Pulcinellas parades by, preceded by banners, the commander , obviously intoxicated, mounts a donkey.
