View of the Gothic Pavilion

Fresco
Villa Valmarana ai Nani, Vicenza

This room was dedicated to the amusement of the nobility in the villa at different times of year. Because of the style of the unusual trompe-l'oeil structure prearranged by Girolamo Mengozzi Colonna, which runs along the walls framing the scenes painted by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, the room is commonly known as the Gothic Pavilion. The frescoes scenes are the Summer Stroll, the Winter Stroll, and the Declaration of Love. Various refined monochrome images - female statues and busts symbolizing the Seasons - complete the decoration of the room.
