TIZIANO Vecellio
(b. 1490, Pieve di Cadore, d. 1576, Venezia)

Violante (La Bella Gatta)

c. 1514
Oil on canvas, 65 x 51 cm
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna

Formerly the painting was attributed to Palma Vecchio. The sitter probably was Violante, Titian's mistress and the daughter of the artist Palma Vecchio, who also painted a series of Venetian beauties. She was represented with flowers in another famous painting by Titian, the "Bacchanalia" in the Prado.
