VALADIER, Italian family of artists

Over three generations, the Valadier family were the foremost goldsmiths and bronze workers in Rome, completing commissions for the Pope as well as numerous cardinals and others associated with the Church. Members of the family were Andrea (goldsmith of French descent, 1695-1759), Luigi (goldsmith, silversmith, and sculptor, 1726-1785), Luigi Giovanni (goldsmith, 1732-1805), Giuseppe (architect, urban planner, and designer, 1762-1839), Filippo (goldsmith, born 1770), Tommaso (goldsmith, born 1772), Luigi II (goldsmith, born 1781), Luigi Maria (architect and sculptor, born 1791).
