During his lengthy trips at the end of the 1590s, Frederik van Valckenborch objective, topographically faithful landscapes and townscapes in his travel sketchbook. This travel sketchbook of over fifty sheets was later broken up and sold off sheet by sheet. The present drawing depicting the city of Landshut once formed part of this travel sketchbook.
