Within the landscape genre, Petr Petrovich Vereshchagin specialized in architectural and panoramic views of Russian cities. In the View of the Kremlin from the Moskvoretsky Bridge, he portrays one of the most stunning architectural landscapes of Moscow. This panoramic view of the Moscow Kremlin was painted from one of the corner watchtowers, Beklemishev, which was erected in the middle of the 15th century for defence purposes. The palaces and temple buildings tower over the Kremlin wall and a succession of fortresses and among them are the Grand Kremlin Palace, Blagoveshensky, Archangelskij and Uspensky Cathedrals as well as the slender bell tower of Ivan the Great.
