VIANEN, van, Dutch family of gold- and silversmiths

They were responsible for the evolution and dissemination of the auricular style, which flourished in the Netherlands during the first quarter of the 17th century. This style was originally confined to embossed ornament and consisted of an amorphous repertory of fleshy scrolls and lobe-like forms.
