The silver ewer and basin, decorated with mythological scenes (with episodes from the stories of Diana and Callisto, and Diana and Actaeon) are the most important works Paulus van Vianen ever produced. The represented scenes gave Van Vianen an opportunity to depict a large number of nude figures in varied poses.
