This group portrait is traditionally identified as three children of Françoise-Athénais, marquise de Montespan (1640-1707). It depicts a young boy in a blue velvet coat with gold frogging, a lace jabot and plumed hat, with a parrot, a young girl in a red silk dress with lace trim, a flower garland and a lap dog, a young girl in a blue silk dress with lace trim and a posey, sitting on a gold-embroidered velvet pillow.

The painting is signed and dated at left, on the stone ledge: 'Vignon. FT. 1690'.
