VISSCHER, Dutch family of artists

Roemer Visscher was an important and central figure of the cultural scene of Amsterdam in his time. He was a specialist in the epigram, but he also wrote emblemata (a genre in which pictures are accompanied by one or two rhyming sentences). He was the father of three daughters: Maria Tesselschade Visscher, Gertruid, and Anna Visscher. Maria Tesselschade Visscher and Anna Roemer Visscher were glass engravers, particularly regarded for their diamond-point glass engraving.
