Shepherds on Tatøy

1883
Oil on canvas, 59 x 65 cm
Nasjonalgalleriet, Oslo

Werenskiold attended the Impressionist exhibition spring 1882. Later that year, on Tatøy, an island off Norway's Sørland coast, he painted the Shepherds on Tatøy. The influence of Pissarro is apparent; a large proportion of the 35 works the French artist exhibited in 1882 depicted farm girls and shepherdesses.
