The Catacombs of Marcellinus and Peter are ancient catacombs situated on the ancient Via Labicana in Rome. Their name refers to the Christian martyrs Marcellinus and Peter who, according to tradition, were buried here.
A the cubiculum of the "two banquets" in the catacombs, so-called because of the images in the two niches topped with an arch, has typical paintings. While the walls have geometrical and plant decoration as well as full-length portraits of a deceased man and woman, the vault has a complex cycle of New and Old testament scenes around the ubiquitous Good Shepherd, placed in a careful order. They include baptism, Job, Moses striking water from the rock, the raising of Lazarus, Daniel in the lions' den, the healing of the paralyzed man, Noah and the Ark, and the miracle of the loaves and fishes.
The picture shows the ceiling painting in the burial chamber of the "two banquets."
