Catacombs of Marcellinus and Peter, Rome

The Catacombs of Marcellinus and Peter are situated on the ancient Via Labicana in Rome. Their name refers to the Christian martyrs Marcellinus and Peter who, according to tradition, were buried here.

The fresco on the ceiling of a funeral chamber depicts Christ enthroned between Sts Peter and Paul who acclaim him. In the lower register the martyr saints venerated in this catacomb are seen praising Christ. Between the saints can be seen the Lamb of God on the summit of paradise.
