This Anglo-Saxon Latin pontifical was produced in Winchester. Many of the books which were made for bishops - the pontificals and benedictionals were used by identifiable figures. The benedictional in Rouen was made for Athelgar, bishop of Selsey (980988), possibly at the New Minster, Winchester. This pontifical came to Normandy through Robert Champart (died 1055), bishop of London (1044-1051) and archbishop of Canterbury (1051-1052).
The miniature on folio 54v depicts the death of the Virgin.
