Le livre de femmes nobles et renomées

c. 1440
Manuscript (Royal 16 G V)
British Library, London

This parchment codex was illuminated by the Talbot Master, an artist active in Rouen, named after two manuscripts produced for John Talbot, earl of Shrewsbury. The text is an anonymous French translation of the Latin original "De claris mulieribus."

The miniature on folio 56 depicts Gaia Caecilia or Tanaquil, with a loom, and women spinning.
