This extensive and sumptuously illustrated Book of Hours was copied in Catalonia, then sent to Bruges to be illuminated. It was commissioned by Juana Enriquez, Queen of Aragon, as a late wedding gift for her son, Ferdinand, King of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. The illustrations were made by several illuminators in the workshop of Willem Vrelant (active 1449-1481), one of the most influential illuminators working in Bruges during the third quarter of the 15th century.
Like all the miniatures in this manuscript, the present one on folio 27v is also surrounded by a beautiful border of plant forms, into which is inserted a peacock. The picture shows the presentation of the Virgin at the Temple.
