From the twelfth century tournaments were carried out following a precise ceremonial - they were preceded by a propitiatory mass and processions and processions and were followed by feasting. The present manuscript is a fine German codex generously illustrated by drawings accompanied by brief explanations.

At top of folio 40 the coats of arms and names of four competitors are shown; at the bottom there is a colourful mounted horseman.
