Mosaics in the west narthex were executed uninterrupted between 1215 and 1235. Then after an extended interruption the decoration was completed in the four cupolas of the north narthex between 1260 and 1280.
The Joseph story begins in the northwest corner of the narthex (1st Joseph cupola) and extends across two additional cupolas in the north narthex (2nd and 3rd Joseph cupola).
