This triumphal-chariot clock called "The Chariot of Diana" is an automaton table clock (Tischautomat) intended to impress dinners guests moving from one to another. A real expensive item, result of collaboration between a clockmaker and a goldsmith, it was made in Germany around 1610.
The case of this curious clock is of ebony, forming a triumphal chariot drawn by two panthers. On the chariot the hunting Diana is sitting. On the back of the chariot a little monkey can be seen.
Diana, the goddess of hunting, seated on a throne, is about to shoot an arrow. Two panthers pull the chariot and a monkey is seated behind. As an inner mechanism drives the wheels of the chariot, the two panthers rise and fall, simulating a bounding movement, their heads move, as the monkey's one.
On the throne there is a clock and every second Diana's eyes move.
