Stool with Strozzi Coat-of-Arms

1500s
Carved and inlaid walnut, height 128 cm
Museo Horne, Florence

The high back of this stool with three square-shaped legs is terminating in a medallion carved with the Strozzi coat-of-arms (the eagle on the recto and the waxing moons on the verso). The stool was originally in Palazzo Strozzi and may have been the work of Benedetto da Maiano, the architect of the palace and charged with designing the furnishing as well.
