In the Egyptian Cabaret service of the Emperor Napoleon I the cartouches of the 'litron' cups, like those of the sugar bowls, the creamer or milk jug, are painted in colour by Nicolas-Antoine Lebel (1780-1845) with Egyptian landscapes, after the prints by Vivant Denon. The saucers are adorned with portraits of sheiks painted in grisaille by Antoine Béranger (active 1808-1846). The patterned band of invented hieroglyphs completes the ornamentation.
