UNKNOWN POTTER, Hungarian
(active between 1878 and 1910 in Pécs)

Vase

c. 1900
Porcelain-faience, height 20 cm
Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest

This vase is an eosin-glazed high-fired soft-paste porcelain.

The outline of the hemispherical body of the vase is "completed" by the handles connecting the body with the top rim. The rounded shoulder line supports a conical neck and a splaying, then narrowing top rim. The turned shape follows North-European, geometrical models, while the marbled decoration is the revival of J. Wedgwood's glazes imitating precious stones.
