Abbey Church, Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe (Vienne)

In the west of the Frankish empire, the region between the Loire and the Dordogne, two main group of Romanesque buildings can be distinguished: the hall churches and the domed churches. The abbey church at Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe appears to be the oldest hall church in the Poitou region, with the choir and transept dating back to between 1060 and 1085 and the nave to between 1095 and 1115.
