Cathedral of San Salvador, Ávila

In Ávila, the rebuilding of the cathedral began in the 1170s. In this ambitious project they decided to construct a double ambulatory with radiating chapels based on the model of Saint-Denis in France. It can be assumed that Ávila was intended as a "royal" building, like Saint-Denis, differing from everything hitherto constructed in Spain. However, an exact replica of Saint-Denis was impossible.

The photo shows the ambulatory.
