Liebfrauenkirche, Trier

The church of Liecfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) takes up the basic form of the older church which it replaced on the same spot. The unusual ground plan, built according to local tradition, demanded an equally unusual elevation, with only two stories. The tall ground story is formed by the arcades that open into the chapels while the shallower upper story consists mainly of windows. Above the crossing a tower rises up. Almost all the individual motifs of the church can be traced to French models.
