Benedictine abbey, Mont-Saint-Michel (Manche)

The choir of the abbey church at Mont-Saint-Michel, begun in 1446 but only finished between 1500 and 1521, follows the scheme of a Late Gothic cathedral. With its deep radiating chapels, its high well-lit triforium, its slender vault supports, and its "forest of piers" created by the buttressing, this building proves a translation of a Gothic choir into the forms of Late Gothic.
