Provost's House of St Donatus, Bruges

The Provost's House (Proosdij) is a palace on Burg Square that was constructed in a Baroque style in 1666. It was used as the residence of the bishop of Bruges and now houses government offices of West Flanders province.

The wide palatial façade of the building is very unusual for the Southern Netherlands. The rich subdivisions and sculptural decoration can be considered as a more emphatically articulated and more severely rhythmic variant of the Rubensian architecture of earlier decades.
