I purchased a painting at an Auction named "A Road in the Woods" name plate "Meindert Hobbema" Just out of curiosity I figured I would look on the internet for the artist. I was surprised to find the name. I really thought the painting was pretty. I have no idea if it is worth anything, but it sure is relaxing to look at.

I loved the site. I am trying to find the origin of a painting I have that is oil. The name is "Huber" but cannot read the first name. It is done in dark colors and is a portrait of a old man with a fiddle he had small glass at the tip of his nose and a small dark cap on his head. My grandmother purchased it from a hotel in chicago around 1952. I love this painting and would like to know more about it if anyones knows. Thank you.

Of all the da Vinci biographies I have read this was the most interresting and informative. I'm more interrested in learning about da Vinci's designs of 3 dimentional structures, and no other site , i've come across, has mentioned his architectural, or scientific aspirations. Thank you for your summary about his "sculptural& architectural drawings". Truely, I wish to see some sketches, so if you know of a place where I may, please inform me. Sincerely, Jeannine

I would like very much to know if I can get prints of some of the art work, and how Santa Maria Novella came to be named if this is known. I was born in a small town in North Carolina named Garibaldi in which a monastery was prominent. My parents told me that the priests asked the town to rename itself, Belmont, and it was. I seek to find some history relative to my name. thank you

an excellent page, am having difficulty finding information regarding tapestries, anyone with any info on where to look for tapestries circa 1500 - 1700, possibly French. The tapestry in question I am trying to find info on is of a court scene with Marie-Antoinette. It was a one stage held by the Guruby or Trojanov family in Hungary in a tapestry gallery with many other tapestries. Unfortunately due to the uprising many of these were lost. There is however one that survived and am trying to find out about its history, its maker and so on. Please send to my e-mail address if you can help me.

hello my people in christ. its a wonderfull blessing to follow in the path way, of jesus, also its a blessing to see another day, its most people that didnt get a chance to see this morning, but like people say no man knows the time nor hour, but jesus is coming back to take his people home someday,so why we are still here in our physical bodies we need to try to set ourselvfs straight, and get right with oneanother, because no one knows thier time, all we know is to be ready when it does come. amen yall keep me in yall prayers, god bless yall in 2000.

What better recommendation could there be than to tell you that I've sat here at my desk with my seven year old daughter viewing some of the greatest works of art in history. My daughter has sat for 1 hour with me looking at and talking about the images by Caravaggio and Michelangelo. The scope of the pages is fantastic and a credit to yourselves as well as to civilisation. Many thanks.

I am particularly iterested in Marcel Duchamp and very curious to know about counterpoints between himself and Le Corbusier, I have found one instance where I can put Duchamp and Le Corbusier in similar surroundings when Duchamp was telling a joke Jane Drew went off to make dessert. I am also looking for further connections with the gentleman Fredrick Etchells, the preliminary translatorof "Vers un Architecture" into English.I am also fascinated by the portraits and chess games of Sofinisba Anguisola. Having recently been to a lecture by Germaine Greer I am also interested in the dimension of painting assimilated with Australian Aboriginal Art - and still know nothing of this, fun and joy aka follie gioir - La Traviata

I was very happy to discover your online gallery. We are interested in selling a painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder. We are attempting to estalbish the market value. Do you have any sales data that may reflect current values?

The site is very accessible to the aficionados and the uninitiated alike. I use it primarily to review my fading notions of art history. The postcard feature is also a very original and stimulating medium, where the educational meets the entertaining experience.

Exceptional resource---where else would you see so many paintings by, for instance, Magnasco? And try typing "Dragons" into the subject-search, & see the varied results. The crispness of the images is marvelous; try van Ruysdael's "View of Haarlem with Bleaching Fields"---worthy of Heaven. Thank you for such a service.
