Its a cold damp evening here in Lynden and I was working on a jigsaw puzzle of L'Ortolana by Vincenzo Campi. Decided to take a break and research Campi and came up with your site - very informative. By the way, the 1,000 piece puzzle was purchased in Canberra, Australia, when I attended the "Italians Exhbition" at one of their museums. Thanks for the information. I bought a jug and a vase from a arts and crafts shop in Lyme Regis. The things that I had bought were made by a Nicholas Hilliard. The man in the shop told me that the artist was the great grandson of the 'Nicholas Hilliard'. I felt foolish admitting that I didn't know who this was. The man in the shop said that Hilliard was famous for miniatures, as I'm doing an art history course in 2003 I thought I'd better look Hilliard up on the web, this is how I came to your excellent site. Will visit again when I've more time, will be useful to my O.U studies. Thank You Lucy Milton |

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing your site, especially the paintings by William Dobson. The painting of Dobson with Gerbier & Sir Charles Cottrell is of special interest because Sir Charles was my 5-times Great-Grandfather. I know that the original is in The Duke of Northumberland's private collectio n at Albury Park. Is it possible to obtain a copy (or copies) of this painting? Your help would be greatly appreciately. Enjoyed viewing your online Art Gallery. I was looking to find the painter of some art which was used on the cover of the "Renaissance Awakening" CD by Dave Seaman, and found it in your gallery under Titian (Tiziano Vecellio), "Assumption of the Virgin" (1516-18). Your site not only guided me to other works of his, but also other works within the same genre and I found that to be most helpful in my search. Thank you for creating a wonderful site... I will pass it on to others who share my interest in the Italian Renaissance painters. I am also interested in linking our website, http://www.paintingstogo.com/ with yours. In this way, our visits can look up background on the reproductions of fine art they wish to have created. You may contact me at: Mark@web4you.net (Web4You Corp.), as I am also the webmaster of that site. Thank you. Mark Prigoff Mark Prigoff, drmidi@optonline.net, http://www.markprigoff.com/ |

You have perhaps the most phenomial web site on this world wide wide of ours. You epitmize humanism & goodness. It is indeed an inspiration to see people devouted to the arts and humanities instead of the meager mentality of ruthless business, which unfortunately dominates our world today. My education is in Eastern philosophy which I studied in Europe & Asia for the better part of a decade. I was a visiting lecturer for four years in India, Kashmir, Pakistan, Iran and the Perseian Guld area. People of your goodness & stature can change the world. Never underestimate your quality, caliber & power. I will leave you with a quote from Yeats (a poet & Taoist philosopher: "This proposterous, pragmatic, pig of a world would fanish in an instant, if the mind but change its theme." My hat is off to you both, and I bow to the nobility you express in your thoughts and action. Kind Regards, Michael Broell Michael Broell, curvedspace@redshift.com |

I ahve a black and white painting by marcus stone 1900 i think it may be First Love Letter but i am not able to find another picture to compare it to it was painted in 1900 it is off a woman sitting in the garden hiding a letter down the front of her dress and in the distance a maid is showing a young man where this lady is it seems all very mystirious and very beautiful it looks as though it is a photograph at first but then when you look you know that it is a painting it is in its original frame and i have cherished it for the last 20 odd years could you be so kind as to let me know if you know of this painting or where i may be able to find out thankyou for your time kind regards pamela pamela, slaterpamela@hotmail.com |

Just startet browsing. Great! Let me point out a slip: the comment about Bonanno reads "Bonanno was an Italian sculptor and architect. He made the bronze doors of the cathedrals of Monreale and Pisa. (In Pisa only one door survived, the others were destroyed in 1595.) The "Leaning Tower" of Pisa was begun under his direction. The picture shows a detail of the side portal of Parma Cathedral, facing the campanile. ... " Parma should be correcte into Pisa. Thanks! Roberto Ballabeni, alesb@wanadoo.fr |

really like your website simply because it has almost all the information i needed for my research about the old masters of art. Amazing site!!!! One minor personal favor - My favorite painting is Giovanni BELLINI's "Madonna with Child and Saints Catherine and Magdalen" of which you have only a detail. If you find a decent digital form of the whole thing I would have a personal interest. Again - Thanks for all your work!! Peter |
I really enjoyed the web-site. It was a great virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel. Thanks. Michael |
As a college student I found what I needed and more. I found myself going beyond the scope of my school paper and learning more about the Sistine Chapel. this is a very nice site and informative. I'd like to see artists listed to recent times. Especially modern or abstract artists. How come this site is in Hungary???? You know what would be a very informative database? If one can assemble a source for an artist from the first time they sell a painting. Then any subsequent owners would register. This way it would be nice to know how many owners the art piece had. For instance, I'd like to know how much was the original price for a Rembrant and who own it how much it is now. This would be so valuable to trace the history of any paintings for future use. Do you know any site where an artist can register their sale? It would remove a lot of guess work from works of art and minimise the copy of the art. Please let me know if you're interested to create a database such as this. I would be happy to convey my ideas and structure as how it should be most beneficial to the artist... known or unknown and the owners of art. Am shocked that no one ever thought about this !!! webkruzer (lease do NOT sell my e-mail address) webkruzer, webkruzer1@yahoo.com, www.ross-gallery.com |

The large images, with high resolution and true colors are the best ive seen on the web. The Vermeers reproductions of the complete paintings are the most beautiful on the internet. The Altdorfer paintings remarkably fine, and the Arnolfini set is very very well done. I have just begun to sift through the site, but I am very much impressed thus far. Terrific work. (Please make a larger scan of the Master of St Lucy Legend Virgin: it is a large painting in reality and deserves a large reproduction on the site.)-- P. Rickley Espino, stroller@att.net |

Your art work site is wonderful! I wanted to share a Christ encounter from my site with you... I've had one vision of Christ. He said to me in pleading compassion, beyond human comprehension, "I know what you're going through. I've been there. I know. I have no favorites. I love all of you the same. Race, social status, and money are not important." (He indicated the learning experience was.) "I'm the same yesterday, today, tomorrow." He indicated I'd have a difficult life and would lose faith, but that he would have it for me. "My words never change. Just come to me. If you will only come to me. You can't imagine the joy. You'll never be sorry. You'll never regret it, if you will only come to me. I can give you that love for others." God's peace be with you & yours, Robin I Robin I, isopeace68@hotmmail.com, Visions of Jesus Christ.com |

It was raining hard, well, after all, it was the monsoon season. Yeah, monsoon. Its a funny sounding word but believe me, the rain it produced wasnt funny by any stretch of the imagination. It had been quite a few years since I was in Southeast Asia and some of the old memories were coming back to me. I was in what used to be called Saigon on what I loosely refer to as business. The company that I was in this city on behalf of had provided me with an office in an office building downtown (and I use the term loosely). I was looking out the window of that office (on the 7th floor) and wondering how the hell I was going to get the two blocks to my hotel. I sort of chuckled because there really was no good way. I decided though that Id had enough for the day so I grabbed my umbrella (not that it would do much good) and locked up and headed for the elevator. Outside, it was as though there was a wall of water that descended from the heavens. I opened my umbrella and commenced getting totally drenched as I walked the two blocks to my hotel. I mean there was no use in running, it would only make me wetter. One thing I will say about Asia, well, this part of Asia anyway, is that if you are an American business person and you are staying in a hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, you certainly get quite a lot for your dong, no pun intended. The Hotel used to be called the Eden Roc years ago and was now operated by Hilton, or Sheraton or one of those big hotel outfits. I was on the 15th floor in a suite. It was very comfortable, small kitchenette, mini bar, bedroom, large sitting room and office. It was comfortably furnished in western type décor. I was looking forward to getting out of these wet clothes, getting into a hot shower and just relaxing with one of the many books I had brought with me for this trip. I put the key into the lock of the suite door and opened. Instantly, I knew that either someone was there right now or had been there recently. There were fresh flowers on the bar that separated the kitchenette from the main sitting room. There was a pleasant, incense-like scent in the room. I was wondering as I took off my jacket and began unbuttoning my shirt, what was going on....... reat the rest and more at fooyon.com Fooyon.com Story Teller Carlos, storyteller@fooyon.com, http://www.fooyon.com |

I'm an art student, currently studying Renaissance art. In preperation for a test, I took the slide list my professor gave me and searched for the works of art on yahoo, hoping to make up a study guide. Consistantly, your site was within the top 4 listed, and I found all but three of the works of art I was looking for on your site. The option of listening to period music is appreciated, and used by me at least. It helps me get in the right frame of mind for viewing these works of art. Your search engine as well is very well ordered. In fact, I can't think of a single thing I don't like about this site. I will be coming back, and reccomending you to others. Keep up the good work. Hi, what a nice website. Great Karl, http://www.nur-lastminute.de |
To whom it may concern, I really do like your website it has great paintings. Although I cannot find much about the artist Giovanni Battista, Piazzetta. I am interested in his painting of the guardian angel looking over St. Anthony. This painting gave me inspiration and I was just curious if you knew why he painted it and what the exact history was, around that time period. Sincearely, Laura K. Ps. For a class project if you would get back to me soon, It would really be appreciated; thank you. Laura Kathleen, mercades@2429aol.com, N/A |

Just discovered the site and found it a great help as I begin my Art Hisorical Studies - Truly eye-opening keep up the sterling work. Michael-J Mc-Dade |
This is a spectacular and very useful site! It is like a museum of all great masterpieces! Would you like to hear my suggestions on its possible improvement? 1. I have noticed several typos or misspellings throughout the site. For example, on one of the pages one can read Sinigallia Madonna (by Piero della Francesca), on another - Madonna of Senigallia. Though insignificant, such errors should be better corrected. 2. It would be great if the site contained more pictures with very high resolution, so that they could be magnified and minute details still looked sharp. 3. The biographies of the artists can be supplied with the references (to web pages as well as to printed material). The same may be wished for individual paintings. Thank you! Arteum D. Bochevarov, arteum@hotmail.com |

Like so many before have said: a wonderful site! i'd like to make two remarks: 1. Sometimes, it would be interesting to know exactly where you got a picture from -- did you scan it? if yes, from which book? or did you scan a slide? 2. I am missing a little the artists Moritz von Schwind, and Schinkel. Both are German romantics. Keep the good work going! PS: Is it possible to donate a few Euros? Gabriel Zachmann, zach at cs dot uni-bonn dot de, http://web.cs.uni-bonn.de/~zach |
This site is truly a marvel! Can't congratulate you enough! However, just one question. For the Ghiberti doors (East) on the batistery at Florence, you have posted an image which you identify as a sibyl. I am not sure where you got this identification and, of course, it could be correct. However, the figure is holding a tambourine and appears to be about to dance. I think it much more likely that it Miriam, the sister of Aaron, based upon the following verse from Exodus: "And Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam answered them: Sing ye to to Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider hath he cast into the sea." This is, of course, also the closing chorus from Haendel's "Israel in Egypt." The question is interesting to me because of Michaelangelo's use of sibyls in the Sistine Chapel and his known great admiration for these doors (several scenes of which prefigure his frescos). So, I guess the questions are: (1) Do we actually know what Ghiberti intended - Miriam or a sibyl; and (2) Did Michaelangelo? It's just a minor point and I can't resolve it. Hoping that you or others can. Thanks again for a truly extraordinary site! And thanks, as well, for the music. Michael Johnson, happymikee@aol.com |

What a wonderful resource of some of the world's most beautiful art. Phenomenal! Congratulations to its creators. May this impressive library keep on going and growing. I, like so many others, spend endless hours browsing your gallery--it is almost as good as lingering in museums of fine arts all over the world. Thank you for the many hours of pleasure of spending time in such a beautiful realm. Sincerely, Kutri Kutri, kutri@kaiku.com, www.kaiku.com/kutriskorner.html |

October 3,2002 I just started watching Earth: Final Conflict and to me it is one of the best quality ScFi shows I have seen in years on Television. What a QUALITY CAST - SO BELIEVEABLE in their roles. I just wonder how much of this Science Fiction will turn into reality over the next 10 to 20 years? Keep up the great work. Sincerely, Gerald H.
