This is my second entry with a couple of suggestions. How about more pictures by Mattia Preti? we have dozens of paintings by him in Malta including his masterpiece, the vault of St. John's co cathedral in Valetta. And I would love to see the painter Antoine de Favray included in your list. Keep up the great.....fantastic work.

The website was filled with a lot of information. It helped me so much to understand what my English teacher was talking about. This web site has helped me understand some of the poets and writers. It's actually hard to find a website that can have so much information! The best thing that I like about this is that you don't have to leave somewhere else to find other information. I appreciate this Web Gallery of Art, and yes, I do enjoy using this site and how you have enhanced it with ease of use and of all the fine artists and wonderful pictures you have made available for viewing by your visitors. I do like Rembrandt & Vincent tremendously and find you adequately have them displayed. I thought I my share one of my own discoveries with your readers on Rembrandt's painting the "Family Group", 1666-68, oil on canvas which is in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-museum. I don't know how many of you have ever heard or recall the story told of Rembrandt, while painting a family portrait and while the family was still sitting for him, he painted his monkey that had just kicked the bucket onto their canvas. Well,... anyway, this happens to be the painting of question in which it was painted. Very easily seen if it were to be point out to you. Thanks again for your wonderful site which I might say I use quite often. Bob Miller

I thoroughly enjoyed studying the works of the Master Painter Rembrandt. I was viewing most of them for the first time. "Abraham and Isaac," Belshazzar's Feast," "Apostle Paul," "Balaam's Ass," "Incredulity of St. Thomas," and "Blinding of Samson" are among my favorites. What attention to facial expressions, three-dimensional effects and rich colors with light and shadow shadings--among the techniques that stirred my heart to appreciation. I appreciate this Web Gallery of Art. Sincerely, Wayne Lawton

I really don't understand the title "Isaac Sends Isaiah to Hunt (panel from the eastern door)." The biblical story has Isaac sending ESAU to hunt for savory meat and the prophet Isaiah isn't even mentioned in Genesis. There's obviously an error here, but I don't know if it's a mislabeling here or some problem with the original title. I love the artwork, however.

I love your website. And I thank you for your page about Artemisia Gentileschi. I love her paintings but it is so hard to find any of them or anything about her work. Most speak only of her life and ignore her work or merely relate it to events without knowledge of the time and place in which she lived. Your site even had two paintings by her that I had never seen before. Thank you again, Tonya

I found your site most valuable in helping create a lecture on Raphael. I especially like the double window feature. That was enormously helpful. I will certainly make use of the site again and recommend it to others. I teach in a seminar course at Marshall University, Huntington WV, on History and the Arts. Making comparison with other artists of the time period is especially important for this group of students as part of their course.

As a history student with main interest in medieval history your gallery is an overwhelming source of information and amazing art of this time. I very much appreciate the comments that go with every picture; your page will be immediately bookmarked! I forwarded your address to my history class members and the professor, too; all of them agree that your homepage is incredibly stunning and worth visiting it again and again - not just for important information on works, but to enjoy the collected art in extremely good quality. Please continue your great work; you certainly have found a fan in Germany! Yours sincerely Oliver Marke, M.A.T.

Look much closer, you may have to scrutinize the painting, but sitting on Jesus' left is not at all John, but a more female character with red hair dressed to complement Jesus. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it IS a woman. They are holding hands, and together their bodies resemble the letter "M."

Magnifico! What a glorious discovery to start the New Year. My only cavil is that it is too much. How will I ever begin to take it all in? Easy to use, marvelous descriptions, especially because you include commentary about history, the everyday life of a town, etc. I have begun with my beloved Siena, last seen in the early '60s...sigh. I just wish that there were such a site for prints...which I collect...and for other periods of art. Thank you very, very much for making this beauty available to the world at large.
