Your site is so helpful, informative and useful. I like to use art to help people enter ito religious meaning, especially of the Italian Renaissance period. This site of yours is superb for the purpose!!! What an inspiration. I am sure that Cimabue and Giotto would be thrilled at the way that their works are able to be shared and viewed in this way. Many many thanks... Fr Trevor Diaper

I have just discovered your marvellous website, and have been sending cards to family & friends ever since. It is good to send a card which might appeal - for example 'A merry party' by Steen to a jokey grandson having his '21st' party. If it were possible to have a search by Title, this would help my 'joined up thoughts'. Off soon to 'Cenerentola' (Cinderella) by Rossini. A pal got the tickets, and can't think of such a title, or a coach scene with a lovely lady descending, to use to thank him. A Trivial thought?, but have the 'serious' noticed Velazquez joke in the 'Waterseller of Seville'? He has carefully dented the circles of the lower part of the jug, both to show his skill, and also that the owner could only afford seconds!

Lorenzo Ghiberti is my husbands Great....grandfather who we are very blessed to have in our family. When his Grandfather came to United States, he had to change his name to GILBERTI because Americans could not pronounce this Italian name, and a famous name at that!!! Shame on them, anyway, the Gilberti(Ghiberti) family since then has always been artistic and I am so proud of the remaining relatives. My husband is the last male Gilberti and it is a sad thought to know that this very eend of such a talented family. If you have anything to add personally about Lorenzo or his son, Victorio, please dned it to me, I enjoy learning all I can, Thank You So Much, Marie Gilberti

Neither of the two images under Elisabetta Sirani's name is by her. The images for other 17th C Italian painters that I checked were mainly well known authentic works. I hope that these two can be removed. That of Beatrice Cenci is usually catalogued as a school work of Guido Reni.

I wish that you put more info on Jan van Eyck, because I had to do a project on him, and this didn't really help

February 7, 2007

I hope that someday there will be a very high quality images available at a site. For now this seems to be the best site. In Eyck's "The Virgin of Chancellor Rolin," there is supposed to be a flock of birds in the right archway of the sky. Also, at the edge of Mary's robe there is supposed to be gold lettering. This image is better than the one from the Louvre but I would still like to see an improvement.

Discovered this stupendously marvelous site quite serendipitously. Then to find I could also listen to splendid classical music at the same time -- makes it almost overwhelming to someone trapped in a tiny town in southwest Idaho. THANKS AND PLEASE CONTINUE. I enjoyed my time in the Prado, the Uffizi and elsewhere. Cheers, Patricia

I consider myself pretty lucky for having found this site, quite by chance. Now it´s a permanent reference, pleasant, inspiring and helpful. I wish to congratulate "immo pectore" the makers of it. Since I live far from the main centers where the wonderful works here exhibited stand, the "Web Gallery of Art" represents the opportunity of a lifetime for me to get in touch with all of them. If we add to the reproductions the bits of info, the biographies, the comments and particulary the music while you are at it, I don´t know what else should be required to make it simply perfect. Thank you very much, or, as it´s said in my country, "muchas gracias".

Whether tragic events touch your family personally or are brought into your home via newspapers and television, you can help children cope with the anxiety that violence, death, and disasters can cause. Listening and talking to children about their concerns can reassure them that they will be safe. Start by encouraging them to discuss how they have been affected by what is happening around them. Even young children may have specific questions about tragedies. Children react to stress at their own developmental level. The Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign offers these pointers for parents and other caregivers: * Encourage children to ask questions. Listen to what they say. Provide comfort and assurance that address their specific fears. It's okay to admit you can't answer all of their questions. * Talk on their level. Communicate with your children in a way they can understand. Don't get too technical or complicated. * Find out what frightens them. Encourage your children to talk about fears they may have. They may worry that someone will harm them at school or that someone will try to hurt you. * Focus on the positive. Reinforce the fact that most people are kind and caring. Remind your child of the heroic actions taken by ordinary people to help victims of tragedy. * Pay attention. Your children's play and drawings may give you a glimpse into their questions or concerns. Ask them to tell you what is going on in the game or the picture. It's an opportunity to clarify any misconceptions, answer questions, and give reassurance. * Develop a plan. Establish a family emergency plan for the future, such as a meeting place where everyone should gather if something unexpected happens in your family or neighborhood. It can help you and your children feel safer. If you are concerned about your child's reaction to stress or trauma, call your physician or a community mental health center.

Just wanted to say thanks for having my favorite artwork, the North Baptistry door "Life of Christ" by Ghiberti! I became familiar with it in an Art History class I took about 6 years ago and the noises I made in class when the slide came up must have made my classmates wonder! I always had trouble remembering his name, and interesting to me now that I know the "rest of the story" that it was Brunelleschi! I just watched a program on the History Channel about the Italian Renaissance and they're rivalry! Looks like Brunelleschi "won" in the end. Thanks for letting me enjoy it all over again!
