I have a picture that was given to me by my grandmother same as the "The Nativity" By Gerard David. Only mine says on the back "The Adoration of the Shepards" By Gerard David (died in 1523). Is this a mess up or is it a real piece? It is very old, and on wood. I would love for someone to respond.. Thank you very much, and GOD BLESS. Natasha Brown

I am an artist, oainting in oils and watercolor, for many years. Now taking a college course in Art History, and your web-site has been invaluable in viewing artists from particular periods. I never appreciated Early Rennaisance before. Now I can hardly wait to go to the National in D.C. to see art from that period, and many others as well. Your web site performs a very valuable service. Thank you.

Having just returned from one of our many trips to Europe, particularly Italy, I discovered your website just today while researching specifics for the photos we've taken over the years. My husband has literally thousands of his photos of various art pieces,& though we try to document as we go, it is great to have this website as a wonderful reference to verify the shots we've taken or art we've seen that we could not photograph, ie. Bernini in the Galleria Borghese. Molto grazie for a superb website!

Although I would have loved to see some of the works from the Impressionist's era as well as some modern pieces.... I still find this site a great access to see some of the old master's works to learn and study from. Gracias, SRD

This is a fabulous website which I've been using for years to source images for medieval/renaissance costume design. I didn't realise just how fabulous it was, though, till I used it for a MA (teacher librarianship) assignment comparing databases. Not only does this site have comprehensive and user-friendly search engines, but enables the development of information literacy through sources and suggestions for future research, and even encourages cross-curricular association through the music feature!

Art which sprouts from the inner essence of our consciences, is like drops of life that exalt the beauty with which our Heavenly Creator drew us with. Art is an expression of the innermost person of the known, together with the unknown, coming out to the world, and the rest of the universe, in a simple mode, or marvelous way of communication. Art can be living, remedial, or platonic, but all in all, art emerges from who we really are, have been, and will become. Art, in all forms, is an infinite concert of melodies in a dance, where some choose to listen from afar, while others, create their own moves in the presence of their favorite company, memory, or joy. Even the most diminute of all particles has an innate ability to create. And that is the root of life. The Essence of Creation: The Love In Art. For them who know how to love, very well know the infinite and wonderful in art. Art is a connection of all forms, into One.

with all of his interest in flying it's too bad the technology of leonardo's era wasn't as advanced as his creativity. and the one flying machine that was within his technological grasp, was apparently beyond his imagination. perhaps the design of a modern paper airplane is too simple for a mighty genius to comprehend?

I've made some comments in the past that I later learned were error-filled. This time my comment is accurate, although some might feel it is too trivial for words. In any event, I don't come to this site frequently enough to find it readily, so I invariably go to Google for directions. Google finds it, but it always takes me to your abandoned URL first before I finally end up here. My suggestin is simply that you ask Google to connect to this site rather than to your former one.

I will gladly complete this but first I must look up the correct name of an artist I knew in New York in the late 40'ies/early 50'ies. We became friendly in the home of another artist whose name I can spell correctly Normal Lewis...and that's too bad, because Lewis who was a painter never became famous, while Ad Reinhardt --that is the spelling I want to check out--did become famous. We dated a while, but he was so depressed it was depressing.

As an Australian who adores heavily builed naked girls and women please show the works of Australias' Norman Lindsay , his art is quite similar to Peter Paul Rubens ......PS I love the arse end of the Landing of Marie De Medici , the woman on left bottom....bottom she is a magnificent nude .

I have visit your web several times and its allways surprize me of the beaty for what men can make. It make me a little bit happier to see and watch the paintings and drawings in large format on my screen and it give me the possebility to study them because I am very interrestit in art from 14 century till end of 18 century. Excuses for my poor English, I hope the WEB will continu all times. Greeting from the Netherlands, Assen.

I have a print in mint condition of "The Little Owl" and after over 3 hours of research on Durer, I was ready to give up. I just discovered it today and when I read the blip under your site before even entering, I was blown away by the sychronicity of it. I did write you an email, but since I live on a lake in the boonies I am back to dial-up modem and when the weather is iffy (as it is today)I get kicked offline all the time. I have the email in my waiting to be sent file, however if you do not receive it, you have my email here and if you are still looking for the owl, please contact me. I love, love, love your site. Thank you so much for putting this all together as you have me interested in period art now. Ah, so much to do, so little time. I will make time to visit your site again and again. Mary Beth

I very much liked your site and will return to tour more. I read that you are (or were) looking for an Owl that Durer painted that goes with The Young Hare and I have been trying to email you to tell you I have a mint condition print of it that I just discovered today, hence the reason I found your site in the first place. I did research on Durer for over three hours before finding you and found it to be very sychronistic that on the list of sites, even before entering you were asking about The Little Owl which was the very print I was researching. I hope you get my email. I live out in the boonies on a lake and am on dial-up modem and it has been stormy off and on today so...I get kicked off line a lot! I have a new interest now thanks to this Little Owl in period art and your site is absolutely wonderful. You may email me from this if you do not receive an email from me because it would not go through. Thank you for creating this wonderful web site. When I was in France all the museums were on strike so I never got to visit one of them! Oh well, I will return and stay to see them all! Again, thank you so much. Mary Beth
