I must commend you on your wonderful website. Was looking for ideas that we could use for celebrating the feast of St. Francis Xavier in Sharjah as we have a very big goan community in Sharjah and the good fortune of being able to celebrate our religion with fervour in a Muslim country. I am looking for paintings by SLETER and ORLANDO(ORLANDI?). Their paintings graced the monuments in Viscount Cobham's (1675-1749) famous landscape gardens at Stowe in Buckinghamshire, which are now being restored by the National Trust, especially the Palladian Bridge, the East and West pavilions and the Temple of Venus.

My grandparents brought an oil canvas of Beatrice Cenci to the United States from Italy in the 1920's-1930's.My grandfather hand carried the rolled up canvas with him on the ship.It is I believe, to be of superior quality.It has been hanging in our restaurant since 1944.Unfortunately I don't have any information on the reproduction besides that mentioned above.

I got a copy of this "couple" with a batch of postcards that I was gifted with. I laughed myself silly. This is not a man and a woman. It is two men. Magdalena would never want to wear a face full of hair like this. (S)he would want to do anything possible,short of pulling it out probably, but it is a deliberately groomed mustache and beard. Hy! this is the best site ever on art... Is it possible to get a lithographed picture of Judith with the head of Holoffernes done by Cristofano Allori??? I cannot afford a large oil, but for sentimental reasons would like to have a copy of it. I grew up in my grandparents home in Deerfield, IL and this picture was over their couch in their large sunken living room. They have to get rid of it when they moved into an apartment and either sold it or gave it to you. While we lived in Chgo. my daughter went to the Art Institute and looked for it but it wasn't on display then. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I have photos that my grandmother (Mrs. Frank M. Sturtevant) gave me but that is all and I would love to have a copy to show my children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Thank you very much for the site. It is a unique chance to learn more about differnt cultures, painters and their works, greatest museums and galleries. I wonder why there is so little information about Russian painting (though some icons are represented, but it is not really enough to satisfy the needs). Sure I can visit Russian sites but as a teacher of English I appreciate those in English and share the information about them with my students so that they could educate themselves and look at the masterpieces. Nevertheless, yours is a huge job!

Dear Emil and Daniel I have just discovered your fantastic virtual museum. I’m very impressed! When I began to study Art History, my handbook had only black and white pictures! And I’m 55! I find your site a great resource, better then a book: it’s possible to enlarge the images and see detailed you can’t see even in a museum (es. I saw all the “Portrait of a Man” by Antonello da Messina larger than in real size!). And to use the Dual-Window View to compare pictures (I’m not able at this, at the moment) … and what good music! I'm doing a comparison of the images for each artist at WGA with what is at ARC (the Art Renewal Center). Since the beginning of the year I've done all the WGA artists from Dalmata to Es. Dear Emil and David: I love your site Gallery of Art. I am in search of an Artist possibly less known named T Manglona or T Manlona - the oil painting is of a beautiful young woman who is half-clothed looking backwards and with a bowl of fruit in a sitting. It is very beautiful. It seems to have a certain style such as a painting that would be used in gentlemen's quarters or maybe a salon or tavern type? There seems to be a period of time when these portraits were very popular or desired by a gentlemen. It is older painting which I purchased in 80's for about $100.00 - I am seeking to identify the Artist. I would appreciate any help from anyone how I may be able to find a list(s) or source to find this Artist? The name seems Latin or Cuban? I don't know how I could go about finding out - I searched a lot on the Internet but did not find Artist name.
