Guided Tour #14f

Music in Visual Arts

Description: The purpose of this guided tour is to illustrate the presence of music in various works of visual arts. We present works featuring musicians playing solo or in groups on instruments in various settings or scenes. We also present works in which musical instruments play a central role as symbols, or in which their detailed, realistic depictions provide valuable information for musicologists. Finally, we present a summary of the various significant musical instruments widely used in Europe during the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, accompanied by illustrations taken from paintings and codices.
