KONINCK, Philips
(b. 1619, Amsterdam, d. 1688, Amsterdam)

An Extensive Wooded Landscape

1670s
Oil on canvas, 83 x 113 cm
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

This late landscape by Koninck well illustrates the decorative tendency of the genre during the 1670s and 1680s, when for many artists the embellishment of fine interiors became more important than verisimilitude.
