Biography

Italian painter. In 1716, he became part of the Fragilia, a guild of Venetian painters. He lived the lifestyle of a Bohemian and had enjoyed poetry. Pedon spent most of his career as a painter in Padua, in the Monastery of San Benedetto.

Together with Marco Ricci and Antonio Marini (1688-1725), Bartolomeo Pedon can be considered the forerunner of the 18th century Venetian landscape tradition. The contemporary sources reported his peculiar character and bohemian lifestyle, which was mirrored in the choice of fancy subjects, such as night scenes and shipwrecks, often combined with stylistic originality.
